American flyfishing is rooted in the area surrounding New York City, and author Tom Gilmore’s intimate knowledge of this history, and more importantly the fishing, will guide you from brook to brook and hatch to hatch. Gilmore hits on everything from the well-known rivers to the out-of-the-way babbling streams about which only the locals know.
From the Catskills to the Susquehanna, the Lehigh to urban spring creeks, and the Brodhead to the Delaware and much more, this guide will break down the area’s tremendous fishing, including the whens, wheres, hows and more. Each water has its own hatch chart, map, driving directions and thorough description.
Residents of this populated and busy area can easily escape the hustle and bustle with this marvelous new book.

Flyfisher Guide to the Big Apple eBook Tom Gilmore Reviews
If you trout fish and live in the NY metro area, get this book. You will be surprised how many trout streams, within a two-hour drive, you are unaware of. This book highlights them all, along with stream maps, directions to parking spots, hatch charts, and enough info for one to be comfortable fishing a new spot. We all wonder if that stream we just passed by (or over) is worth a cast. This book will give you the answer, and you will immediately be checking off a dozen you will want to try this season. A great read; then throw it in your gear bag for reference when you're out and about.
This book is a MUST HAVE for all Trout Fisherman in the Tri-state Area, much more then just a book written about the subject of flyfishing for trout, but a pertinent guide book to make any visitors trip to the "BIG APPLE" a success! Miles of well documented river systems that would take seasons of wading to complete. It is full of maps and highly detailed driving directions, and once you arrive you'll want to add them to your GPS. What I found helpful was the addition of restaurants and names of accomodations along the way. The author also lists area flyshops/sporting goods stores, Car rental/repair centers and medical care contact numbers. *****HIGHLY RECOMMENED *****
The author has taken his 40-year passion for flyfishing, and his list of 230 streams in the region and boiled them down to his top 100 based on his lifelong stream notes and his recent visits to double-check his top spots. He's also one of the top conservationists in the region, bringing a deep perspective to the places he knows so well. The book is an incredible gift to fishermen and conservationists alike!
With his latest book 'Flyfisher's Guide to the Big Apple', coastal angling expert Tom Gilmore moves inland - switching from Deceivers to Elk Hair Caddis - to share a treasure trove of getaways to some of the best trout fishing in the East - all within a few hours of Manhattan.
In addition to clear directions, hatch charts and star ratings for prime waters, Gilmore's graceful writing style and generous use of anecdotes makes the book read more like his personal stream log than the standard issue guidebook.
In remote settings and scenic stretches like the Upper Lehigh in Pennsylvania, Swamp Brook in the Ramapo Mountains of New Jersey and the dry fly-friendly pools of the Croton Watershed in New York, Gilmore shows the big city angler where to go to test skills on native brookies and wild, stream-bred rainbows and browns.
Now there's even more to do in and around the Big Apple.

This is the best flyfishing guide book for the metro NY, NJ, Pa area that I have seen. It is a must have.
Great book. Every one who fishes should have it
I like this book. I'll be sure to fish some of the streams described.
